The name Luigi Sardo is a tribute to founder and creative director Markus Lacaria’s grandfather, named Luigi Oggiano, from Sardegna, Italy. ‘Sardo’ being a slang term used in Italian to describe people from the island of Sardegna. Lacaria honours his grandfather through Luigi Sardo as Luigi’s personal life was one that represents the struggle of a man trying to succeed and provide for his family in a foreign land. Hard work, sacrifice, determination, and classic Italian style is what Luigi Sardo represents as a brand and a product line – catering to the young professional male in today’s competitive environment. Simplicity, variety and sophistication, Luigi Sardo offers men a line of footwear like no other for the urban gentleman.
Founder and Creative Director, Markus Lacaria started Luigi Sardo in 2008 while living in Southport, Australia. Inspired by the beach culture and popularity of canvas shoes, Lacaria designed a shoe that embodied the Australian lifestyle he adored. After years of preparation and hard work, Lacaria’s project came to fruition in mid-2011 with the release of the debut Luigi Sardo footwear collection, which showcased the Sardo Classic model.
The debut collection released in mid-2011 was an instant success, selling out almost immediately after release. The high demand fueled the second collection, set to launch in 2013.
The new collection features three new styles: The Sardo Classic Mid, The Southport & The Cicero and an improved version of the iconic Sardo Classic. Spring and Fall offerings in the collection make it extremely versatile – while remaining sophisticated.
